I work in a holistic way, so there are times where I've come to find talking isn't what's needed to process stuck emotion or traumatic events. The body, especially the muscles, can store past events and emotions. This can create difficulty or dis-ease in our lives. Reiki, as well as other therapies can help the body to activate the vagal nerve. Polyvagal theory proposes that the vagal nerve is key to the reconciliation of traumatic experiences, as unprocessed traumatic events can be stored in the body and lead to bodily symptoms.

The vagal nerve is the longest cranial nerve controlling a humans inner nerve centre, the parasympathetic nervous system. It oversees a huge range of vital functions communicating sensory input from outside triggers to the rest of the body.​
